India will be happy to help all those Sri Lankan Tamil refugees living in Tamil Nadu wishing to go back to their homes in the island's North and East by arranging for ships and ferries to transport them back to their homeland along with their belongings.
This offer was made by Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to SC Chandrahasan, Chief Functionary of the Organisation for Eelam Refugees' Rehabilitation (OfERR), when he called her in Colombo on Saturday. He was accompanied by Ms Sinnathamby Sooriyakumary, President of OfERRCeylon. The minister was in Colombo on Friday and Saturday for the ninth India-Sri Lanka Joint Commission meeting
Chandrahasan told The Island from Colombo: "Ms Swaraj made this kind and generous offer when I explained to her the problems the 1,00,000 Sri Lankan Tamils living in Tamil Nadu are facing. Most of them want to go back to their homes in the North and East, but will need assistance to rebuild their damaged homes and disrupted lives in Sri Lanka."
